Millie’s Oven Roasted Chex Mix

Do you love Chex Mix?
I’m not talking about the bag you can buy from the store.  I’m also not talking about the microwave version you find on all the Chex Cereal Boxes.
I’m talking about the 2 hour, mixing every 15 minutes, oven roasted, best, most amazing recipe that brings out every flavor that Chex Mix has to offer!
It’s the best Chex mix you will ever enjoy  Devour!

Yes- I bring you Millie’s Oven Roasted Chex Mix!

Millie is my wonderful Mother-In-Law.  Yep- I’m one of the lucky ones who actually likes  loves her In-Laws!  She has become the Chex Mix Icon of Scottsdale, Arizona!  People love her Chex Mix so much that it has become a requirement of the holiday season!  She makes so much Chex Mix that she has to start in October and usually finishes just after Thanksgiving.  It is shared not only in Arizona but is shipped across the country to loved ones!

I was asked to do an at home market research project for Chex Mix.  It was crazy!  They came to my house with huge video cameras and lighting equipment- it was like I was going to be on the 5:00 news! Lol
I was asked to demo cooking a batch of Chex Mix.  While it was roasting they would interview me asking all sorts of questions about Chex Mix in my life!  Every 15 minutes I’d say excuse me, jump up and give the Chex Mix a good stir and return to the interview!
I even made 3 other varieties of Chex Mix for them to sample.
I made Spicy Mix, Cornbread Mix and Lemon Buddies.  They loved them all!
It was great!
Seriously one of the strangest experiences for me!

Prior to their visit,  I had to call my Mother-In-Law and see if she’d give me her recipe and instructions on how to make her amazing mix.  She did!😀
Now that I am in the food blogging world, I asked if I could share her recipe with all of you.  She said sure!

So on that note:

Preheat the oven to 225°

Get your large Turkey roaster with a lid.  Or you can use a disposable Turkey Pan and use foil for the lid.

Melt the butter and add the spices and Worcestershire sauce.  Mix well.  Pour about half of the seasoned butter into the roaster pan and then add the pretzels tossing them to give a good coating.

Add the remaining cereals and nuts.

Pour the remaining butter mixture evenly over the top.

Mix until all the ingredients are incorporated.

Cover and bake for 1 hour stirring ever 15 minutes.

Store in zip locks or your favorite container.

This is my Favorite container!  Anyone else grow up with one of these in their house?

Funny thing is I can’t recall ever having a Charles Chip.  This was always used for toy storage, Tupperware lids, Halloween candy anything and everything except chips!  LOL

In my husband’s house it was the chip graveyard.  As he tells me, any bag of chips that had come close to the end got dumped into the Charles Chip Can.  It was a smorgasbord of the “end of the bag” chips!

What did you store in your Charles Chip Can?

This can was a gift and actually had Charles Chips inside!  It was in my 40’s that I finally got to try these chips!  Pretty much your standard chip- like a lays.  I think I had the expectation built up too high!

Anyhow, this is where Chex Mix lives in my house.

When you get to the bottom of the bag don’t forget to make Chex Mix Chocolate Fudge!
